Who is Taylor Swift? (Personal Album Post #2)

on April 12, 2012

Taylor Alison Swift is a singer, songwriter and musician born on December 13, 1989 in Wyomissing, PA. She began singing at local events, fairs and concerts at the age of ten. She sang the ”Star Spangled Banner” at the Philadelphia 76ers game at age eleven. Swift began writing her own songs and started to learning to play the guitar at age twelve. From the looks of it, she wasn’t like most kids that age. She knew even at a young age that singing was her passion and that singing is what she wanted to pursue. Some people move to New York City to become models. Some people move to Los Angeles to pursue their acting careers. Taylor Swift moved to Nashville, TN to pursue her music career. Nashville is the country music capital! I don’t want to become a country singer but I can’t wait until the day I get to walk the streets of Nashville and feel that country lovin’! In 2006, Taylor Swift released her self-titled debut album at age sixteen. She released her first single off the album, ”Tim Mcgraw”, which became a Top 10 hit on the country charts.

According to a Taylor Swift biography, ”Swift’s debut record made her a queen in the country world, but 2008’s Fearless positioned her as the year’s biggest star of any genre”. In 2008, Swift released her second album ”Fearless” and became the highest selling country artist. She received many awards for the work on ”Fearless” and was the first country artist to win an MTV Video Music Award on September 13, 2009.  I remember watching this award show and going crazy because she won an award. It was as if I was watching my best friend on television winning. Controversy shook when Kanye West  jumped on stage during Swift’s speech after winning the award for ”Best Female Video”’. He rudely interrupted her and took the microphone from her and said that Beyonce should’ve won Swift’s award. She was so excited and so honored to have won that award that I could imagine the sadness she felt at that moment when another super star basically said she didn’t deserve it. That didn’t stop my Tay Tay though. She went on to create her third album which took two years to produce and created her masterpiece ”Speak Now”. She wrote all the songs on her own for this one, with no help from co-writers. Her inspiration for the songs on her ”Speak Now” album came from all of the experiences she faced throughout the two years of writing including the incident with Kanye West. The Kanye West controversy ended up being a good thing for Taylor. She wrote a subliminal song about Kanye West and ended up performing it the following year at the MTV Video Music Awards called ”Innocent”.  I love the part where she sings ” Did some things we can’t speak of but at night you live it all again” because at same time and place they will both be reliving a memory that they both want to erase. Usually when someone upsets another person and emotionally hurts them they become angry or spiteful but not Taylor Swift. In the song ”Innocent” she says ”It’s alright, just wait and see Your string of lights is still bright to me Oh, who you are is not where you’ve been You’re still an innocent It’s okay, life is a tough crowd 32, and still growin’ up now Who you are is not what you did. You’re still an innocent”. She could have easily written a nasty song about him but she didn’t because that’s Taylor Swift for you! ”Speak Now” sold over one million copies in November 2010 and debuted at number one in its first week. Taylor Swift is such a great role model. She handled herself so graciously that September night and because of it good things followed her after it. Now, I hope you know why she holds a dear place in my heart. She reminds me of myself and my friends. She’s just like the rest of us girls, she has feelings too.
